|BIC operates the country’s Formula 1 race track. As the region’s first Grand Prix race track, it has helped to promote awareness and enhance the international profile of Bahrain. BIC provides facilities second to none to stage sporting, business and social exposure for the whole of the Middle East. BIC is 100% owned by Mumtalakat.
The circuit forms the backbone of the Economic Development Board’s message of ‘Business Friendly Bahrain’ and functions as a catalyst for many of the Kingdom’s government and private sector operations, creating a host of financial, residential and entertainment initiatives. BIC has been instrumental in creating innovation and encouraging diversification into new industries, through attracting foreign direct investment from a global pool of countries.
BIC has received worldwide acknowledgment since its inception in 2004, collecting a multitude of awards from several motor sport organisations, including the FIA ‘Centre of Excellence’ status in 2007 (the only active venue in the world to currently hold this title), ‘Best Organised Grand Prix’ in 2004 and ‘Best Organised V8 Race’ in 2007. It continues to promote motor racing on an international level through hosting a variety of events including the prestigious FIA Formula One World Championship Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix, Desert 400 Australian V8 Super Car Championships, Porsche Mobil 1 Super Cup and F3 Super Prix. Regionally, the circuit is the central hub of motorsport activity, allowing its fan base to experience the GP2 Asia Series, the home grown and developed Chevrolet Supercars ME Championship, Bahrain National Drag Racing Championship, Karting at championship and corporate entertainment levels, and finally a diverse range of hospitality and corporate products including the region’s leading off-road 4x4 course.
