UASC is one of the largest Middle East based ocean carriers of containerized cargo and was jointly established in 1976 by six shareholding states from the Arabian Gulf (Bahrain, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and U.A.E).
 
UASC is the only Gulf-owned container line to feature among the world's top 30 container shipping lines, and currently operates 48 ships, 27 of which are owned by the company and 21 are chartered.
