About Bahrain
Bahrain is the most mature, well established business hub with some of the largest financial institutions in the Gulf. Its reputation as a relatively liberal and modern Arabian Gulf state has made it a favorite with businesses and tourists visiting the region.
Whilst many other GCC states staked their futures on oil, Bahrain began to diversify its economy at an early stage, seeking to develop new sectors of commerce and industry to drive long term economic growth. As a result, Bahrain now has a 40 year track record of being the region’s financial services leader, with its integrated financial services regulator, the Central Bank of Bahrain, one of the region’s best and most respected regulators. New areas of industry have been created, such as aluminium smelting and manufacturing, the expansion of the financial services sector to capture the opportunity of Islamic finance and insurance services.
Development for the country has been swift, building on Bahrain’s highly educated work force and the opportunities that its liberal economy offers.
As a dynamic country and economy, Bahrain provides a free, open and transparent environment for businesses and has a globally competitive, value creation story which focuses on sustainability, skills and good governance.
Despite the speed of its development, Bahrain also retains much of its historic character, as the site of one of the oldest civilizations in the world and thought by some to be the site of the Garden of Eden, the island Gulf state of Bahrain offers a wide range of history and culture.
